Tess Spencer, Eli Owens, Sun-Ly Pierce

On Sunday, October 23rd, RLO held its annual vocal competitions, the Angelone High School Vocal Competion in two divisions, Classical and Music Theater, and the LaDue 18+ Vocal Competition, including both classical and jazz selections. Each competitor brought three selections and the judges heard their choices of repertoire in two performance halls within the grand Lyric Theatre on East Avenue. At 5 pm, the finalists for each division were announced, and the final round was held in a concert format at 7 pm. There were three Angelone Music Theater finalists, seven Angelone Classical finalists, and four LaDue finalists. There was a wonderful turn-out at the free evening concert and a wide range of music was heard, from Puccini’s Turandot to Porter’s Tale of the Oyster. Each of the finalists looked fabulous and sang beautifully, making the judges’ task to pick three winners very challenging. At the post-concert reception, the three winners were announced:

Sun-Ly Pierce, soprano – LaDue
Eli Owens, tenor – Angelone, Music Theater Division
Tess Spencer, mezzo soprano – Angelone, Classical Division

Congratulations to all the finalists, and kudos to the winners, for their truly enchanting performances.  Many thanks to our star-studded adjudicators, Elena O’Connor, Linda Foster, Diane Abrahamian, Robb Zimmerman, and Mario Martinez.
