With great joy and pride, Rochester Lyric Opera announces the purchase this week of the grand 1915 building at 440 East Avenue, Rochester, which has served as First Church of Christ, Scientist for the last 100 years. Use of the building as a theater will commence immediately, and down the road significant renovations will be done to create a state-of-the-art 900 seat theater, also featuring a second smaller hall for more intimate performances and receptions. The Lyric Theatre has its own website (http://lyrictheatrerochester.org), and will serve not only as home to Rochester Lyric Opera, but also as a venue for the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival; and it will be available for numerous other arts institutions and performing organizations. A press conference splashed the wonderful news on April 8, 2015. We can’t wait to welcome you to Rochester’s newest cultural treasure!
